Ongata Rongai Nairobi (Site 003)

The second example is at the Ongata Rongai area 20 km from Nairobi City where I have installed another WindCruiser CS16TDR 240VAC to the home of a Mr Joseph Ngare.   His home is located down Karen area towards Kiserian where the winds from Kitengela area climb gently towards the Ngong Hills. The area has a beautiful landscape with gently rolling hills. The winds there are very constant and at times terrible storms prevail. Mr Ngare is settled on a one-acre farm about 4Km from the National Electricity Grid. The area Acacia Estate is a new settlement and many families are moving in from the hustle and bustle of Nairobi City Estates.

Mr Ngares system runs the lights and a 21” color TV. He has a battery bank of 200AH. He is comfortable with a total of 200 AH of battery bank but recons that many times his batteries are fully charged and energy from the Wind Cruiser is not utilised. This WindCruiser delivers between 240 volts which go straight to some appliances and his battery charger. A 300 watts Inverter is later on used to run the appliances in his house when there is no wind. In order to run bigger appliances like the Fridge, he has to employ a bigger inverter say one which can supply 1500 watts. He has no solar Panel installed yet to work with the Wind Cruiser. He feels the winds are sufficient to power his house everyday.
