In
Rift Valley province Olenguruone, Kiptaragon is another WindCruiser
CS09TDR 12 VDC flying. We installed the machine in the home
of Mr John Rop during the Easter Weekend April 2004. This giant
machine with a wingspan of 10 feet is powering the home lights,
TV and radio and at the moment only using two 100AH Solar battery.
This
machine is air cooled gauze covered. It is able to deliver 18
VDC in a just a breeze. The fiberglass turbine spins easily and
gains terrific speed. The tower has 4 guy cables holding it to
the ground. It took 8 men to hoist the 25 feet tilt-tower from
the ground without the turbine which we later pieced up.

The
pit was an easy dig due to the level of soil. We dug 4 feet deep
before hiting a hard crust. This provided a good foundation base
for the tower though.

This
was a good depth for the tower and we begun building the base
on the rocky crust. The white dust in the pit is a termite killer
which will prevent the tower beams from termite attack.

Wamalwa
is setting the ballast in the pit.

We
got an overwhelming support from the neighbours who offered to
help John in anyway they could.

Here
a man using a power saw is preparing the tilt-tower gear poles.
These are the beams which go into the ground and hold the tower.

Using
a heavy duty hand brace drilling of the tower holes begun.

The
holes fit perfectly on the tower. The tower beams measured 4 inches
by 10 inches with a height of 6 feet. The tower is a treated pole
measuring 25 feet tall.

After
the machine was assembled (minus the turbine), it was time to
hoist it upright. Many hands were needed to do this task.

With
most of the machine high up the tower the men fitted the tower
locking metals. The tower foundation is clearly visible in this
picture dipicting a strong base for the machine.

Time
to prepare a bamboo ladder, climb up and fix the turbine prop.

Martin
went up the tower after securing the guy cables. The turbine was
ready to spin.

The
rest of the family lined up for a snap under their new light.
Notice the 2" flourescent tube light on the ceiling.

Mr
John Rop smilling as he enjoys watching his TV on his Renewable
Energy investment.
