Miaani Machakos

At St Cecilia Miaani Catholic Church on August 1st 2005 we installed a WindCruiser CS15TDR 12-24 VDC. This site is located on one of the rolling windy hills of Machakos. There was a solar power system which had failed and our wind generator boosted the system as a hybrid option.

The road sign

The home of Msgr John Mutiso Mbinda is located 40 kilometers from Machakos town and the national power grid. The road is tarmac up the hill but a short distance though not all weather, is good.

Preparing the pit. The ground was very hard which is a good sign of a strong Tilt-Tower base.

Fitting the Tilt-tower Base bolts.

Day one work over; we left the base to set for 24 hrs.

Day two the team assembling the generator and the Fiberglass blades. It took the team 30 minutes to piece up the generator.

Raising the tower and fixing the guy cable clumps. Notice the trees in the background. These were planted to act as wind breakers.

Generator Ready to fly. Though this is not a very windy month we had an experience where the generator picked up good speed in the evenings.

View from the windy side. Notice the hills in a distance. This house stands on top of a hill with a good view of the country.

Eng. G. G. Kidegho making sure all is well with the tower and guy cables.

Mike checking the Battery Bank and linking the wind and solar power hybrid system.
